West Oakland Legacy & Leadership Project Internship
Our West Oakland Legacy & Leadership Project (WOLLP) Internship offers West Oakland teens ages 14-18 educational training by professionals in Communication, Leadership, Visual Arts, Urban Agriculture, Attitudinal Healing & Environmental Impact related science. ArtEsteem, City Slicker Farms and West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project are partnered together to complete this well rounded program.
Students will build leadership skills, experience Visual Art, Urban Agriculture and Environmental Science in engaging interactive sessions for six hours each week with additional field trips on some weekends.
Students who complete the internship will be able to work side by side with professional artists, learn to cultivate food, gain greater environmental awareness and influence our community as youth leaders. Our program will begin in late August and culminate in June with an Overnight Environmental Awareness Trip lead by our staff and partners.
Students will present their work in our annual professionally curated and installed ArtEsteem Exhibition with upwards of 300 attendees.
Each student who completes the internship will earn a stipend and receive the necessary guidance, support and team effort required to graduate high school and apply for college. Students who participate in extracurricular activities like our internship are better prepared for adult life, college and the professional world. These students improve their attendance, tend to have higher test scores, stronger resumes and are more likely to be hired upon completing college if they continue to participate in extracurriculars and internships throughout their college years.
